Security

Accounting work runs on trust, and trust runs on how information is handled. This page describes, plainly and without marketing language, how we protect yours.
1. Website Security
Encryption everywhere. This entire website is served over HTTPS — every page, every form submission, encrypted in transit.
A deliberately simple architecture. fairlightaccounting.com is a static website: there is no database of client information behind it, no user accounts to breach, and no client financial data stored on the website itself. The most effective way to protect data on a marketing site is for the site not to hold any — so it doesn't.
Protected infrastructure. The site is served through an enterprise-grade content delivery network with built-in protection against common attacks (DDoS mitigation, bot filtering, and a web application firewall).
2. Client Data Handling
Client financial work does not happen on this website. It happens inside established, security-vetted platforms — cloud accounting, payroll, and document systems chosen in part for their security practices, encryption standards, and access controls. Within those systems:
- Access is limited to the people who need it to serve you.
- Authentication is protected — we use strong, unique credentials and multi-factor authentication on the platforms that hold client information.
- Sensitive documents move through secure channels. We ask clients not to email sensitive items like full account numbers or government ID, and we provide a secure method for transmitting documents during onboarding.
3. Data Retention and Disposal
We retain client records for the periods required by tax law and professional standards, and dispose of them securely when those periods end. Original documents are returned to clients on request or at the end of an engagement.
4. Our Practices
Security is treated as an ongoing discipline, not a checkbox: we review the platforms we rely on, keep software and access lists current, and reassess our practices as the firm grows. As our security program develops, this page will be updated to reflect it — and it will only ever claim what is actually true.
5. Reporting a Concern
If you believe you've found a security issue with our website, or have a question about how your information is handled, contact us at [email protected]. Security reports are read promptly and taken seriously.
