About Fairlight

An Accounting Firm Built the Way We’d Want to Hire One

Fairlight Accounting started with a simple observation: most small business owners get the worst of both worlds from their accountants. They pay professional fees, but get reactive service — a preparer who appears in March, files what happened, and disappears until next year. The proactive guidance goes to companies big enough to afford a finance department.

We built Fairlight to close that gap. One firm handling bookkeeping, tax, payroll, and advisory together, on fixed fees quoted in writing, with a team that holds CPA credentials in both the United States and Canada — because in South Florida, business doesn’t stop at the border, and neither should your accountant’s competence.

Our story

From the CFO’s Seat to Your Corner

Fairlight’s founder spent more than fifteen years in senior financial leadership — as Chief Financial Officer, Controller, VP of Finance, and Director of FP&A — inside the kinds of companies that can afford a full finance department: private equity–owned portfolio companies, venture-backed investments, family office portfolios, and established operators across North America, Europe, and the Middle East. That work spanned the full range of what a finance function does, each part carrying equal weight: taxation, domestic and international — U.S. and Canadian corporate tax, compliance and planning across multiple jurisdictions, and the treaty and structuring questions that come with operating on both sides of a border; financial reporting and internal controls; planning and analysis; M&A and restructuring; KPI and business intelligence builds; and capital raises and exits.

Fairlight exists to bring that caliber of work to the businesses that have never had access to it. The bookkeeping discipline of a controllership, the tax planning — domestic and cross-border — of a corporate tax function, the forecasting and dashboards of an FP&A team, and the judgment of a CFO who has actually sat in the seat — scaled and priced for small and mid-sized businesses, not reserved for companies with a finance department on payroll.

Our mission

Make the Numbers the Steadiest Part of Running Your Company

Give business owners numbers they can trust and a plan they can act on. Everything about how Fairlight works — fixed fees quoted in writing, books closed on a guaranteed date, plain-language answers, one team across every service — exists in service of that sentence. When your numbers are current, accurate, and explained, every other decision in the business gets easier.

How We Work

  • Cross-border depth, locally based. CPA credentials in both the US and Canada, in the middle of North America’s busiest US–Canada corridor.
  • Fixed fees, quoted in writing, before work begins. Our full price list is published on this website. That’s the policy, not a promotion.
  • One team, one set of numbers. Books, taxes, payroll, and advisory under one roof — nothing lost in handoffs between vendors.
  • Proactive by design. Quarterly estimates, planning sessions, and review calls are built into our packages — not billed as extras when you remember to ask.
  • Cloud-based and current. Your books live in QuickBooks Online, closed on a guaranteed monthly date, visible to you anytime.
  • Plain answers. We explain what we’re doing and why, in language you don’t need an accounting degree to follow.

Who we help

Who We Work With

  • Small and mid-sized business owners across South Florida who want their back office handled with the discipline of a corporate finance function — without hiring one
  • Owners done with DIY bookkeeping or freelancers who disappear at the worst moment
  • Cross-border individuals and businesses — snowbirds, Canadians in the US, US expats in Canada, and owners with entities on both sides
  • Businesses in industries we know from the inside — multi-site retail, healthcare and wellness practices, SaaS, e-commerce, construction, and manufacturing
  • Growing teams that need payroll, compliance, and real financial reporting done right the first time
Credentials

The Credentials Behind the Work

  • CPA credentials in the United States and Canada — our team is qualified in both tax systems, not guessing at one of them.
  • Deep domestic and international tax experience — U.S. and Canadian corporate and personal taxation, treaty positions, and compliance across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Senior financial leadership background — experience running finance functions for private equity–owned, venture-backed, family office, and owner-operated businesses across North America, Europe, and the Middle East.
  • Full finance-function range — financial reporting and internal controls, FP&A, business intelligence and KPI dashboards, M&A and restructuring, and capital raising.
  • Cross-border practice as a specialty, not a sideline — FBAR, T1135, Form 5472, treaty positions, and dual-country filings are daily work here.
